4,000 recruits to be trained as policemen soon

SIBU: Police will be training 4,000 recruits to prepare them for postings to various police stations in the country toward the end of the year.

Management director of Bukit Aman Datuk Mortadza Nazarene said the training would begin in June.

Speaking at the commissioning of the new police station in Teku Road here yesterday, he said more policemen were needed to serve the rapid increase in population.

“Previously, our target for the police force for the nation was 150,000.

“This number doesn’t seem sufficient now in terms of the ratio between policemen and the population.”

On another matter, Mortadza said police would apply for more allocation to build more new police stations under the mid-term review of the Malaysia Plan.

Under the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP), the government set aside RM1.1 billion for 13 projects under the concept of ‘Build, Lease and Transfer’ for Sarawak, he said. – www.theborneopost.com
